Defined Tag: Home Owner Flood Insurance.
In the past home owner flood insurance was misunderstood or unattainable. Homeowners who lived in flood prone areas had little or no options when it came to flood insurance. All of this changed when congress created a flood insurance program in 1968. This enabled these people to insure their homes and families from any floods that might occur.
As with all types of insurance policies, you can choose the level of protection you want for your home. One option with lower flood insurance premiums is called a Preferred Risk Policy. It is lower cost option for those who live in low to moderate flood risk areas. This type of policy is available for both residential coverage and business coverage.
Standard homeowners policies do not cover floods. This is a coverage that you will need to have added to your policy. Even if you do not live in a flood zone, accidents do happen and it is wise to have at least the minimum coverage to protect your home. It is important that you read and understand your policy before you purchase it to avoid unforeseen surprises should a situation arise, or water.
When the National Flood Insurance Program was introduced, insurance companies made special provisions to its policyholders. Although it is a part of your homeowners insurance, it is considered to be a special policy, and not part of your standard homeowners insurance policy. The biggest benefit to this type of insurance policy is that it also covers what is termed “Acts of God”, which means that not only is your home insured for flood damage, it is covered for a number of other different incidents that could occur It is important that you discuss which incidents are covered with your home owner flood insurance provider.
Having this type of insurance will no doubt raise the cost of your home insurance, however, it is money well spent. If you have a flood that occurs, you will be glad that you purchased this additional homeowners flood insurance.
